You dirty rat…yooooou dirty rat! We all know the famous phrase. But, did you know though that South Florida (Miami / Fort Lauderdale) ranked as the 20th “rattiest city” in the United States? We bet you didn’t. But you can be sure that there is a problem.
This is all according to a recent poll that was taken by a well-known pest control company.
How Did They Come Up With These Rankings
Metro regions were ranked by the number of new rodent treatments performed from September 2018 – September 2019. This ranking included both residential and commercial treatments.
The Miami-Fort Lauderdale area took the cheese at Number 20 (out of 50). This is actually down three spots from last year’s list but still, ranks the highest of all Florida cities. Orlando ranked 39th, followed by Tampa-St. Petersburg at No. 40.
Other Rat Facts
So what city had the most rats? The rattiest city in the country is Chicago. Congrats Chicago! And good for you, you did it for a fifth consecutive year. Los Angeles, New York and Washington D.C. followed.
According to the polling, the most common rodent pests in the United States are the house mouse, the Norway rat, and the roof rat.
